Linda J. Hauley is a graduate of the National Institute of Genealogical Studies (www.genealogicalstudies.com) through the Continuing Education Program, University of St. Michael's College in the University of Toronto, Ontario, Canada obtaining her Professional Learning Certificate in Genealogical Studies, PLCGS, in Methodology, English and Canadian studies (over 100 courses); however, she has been involved in researching her own family history for more than 40 years. She has also received a basic certificate in German studies and has pursued alternate genealogical educational courses through the National Genealogical Society in the US and Pharos Tutors in London, England, to round out her qualifications.
Education is an ongoing requirement of Genealogical Research. Linda's focus will be on learning more about the repositories available in the United States and completion of her Certificates in US studies. As there are always more and more records becoming available and knowing where one can access them and what they are able to reveal is a top priority for a Professional Genealogist & Family Researcher.
During the research on her own family, Linda started collecting all records of her maiden surname, Vodden and its variants, subsequently becoming a member of the Guild of One-Name Studies and The Surname Society, both of which support studies in individual surnames.
Linda is a member and Treasurer of the Ontario Chapter of the Association of Professional Genealogists (APG), a member of the Ontario Genealogical Society as well as other societies and groups that can help her in doing research for you. Her fascination with establishing positive identification of family lines in her one-name study has prompted membership in FamilyTreeDNA.

"I have been engaged in a One Name Study of my maiden name of VODDEN since the early 1990's. Since Vodden is such an unusual name, I thought that there wouldn't be many entries and this would be quite an easy task. Not so!!
The name originated in Devon, England and due to the dialect of the Devonshire people back in the late 1600's, there were many variations of the name, Vawden, Vowden, Bawden - to name a few. So my study had to include them too!
More recently through social media, I have come to know the younger generation and compiled information that showed how they fit into our now complex family tree. I have cousins now all over the world!!"
"As a wife, mother of three and grandmother of eight, I delight in my family. My husband and I have been happily married for 30 years. We have twin sons, having celebrated their 44th birthdays, both married and successful in their careers. Both sons have one boy and three girls each. Our two grandsons, one being the eldest at 22 and the other the youngest at 6 with the girls spaced out between, we affectionately call them "Our BookEnd Grandsons"!! Our daughter, 33, a special needs adult, who enjoys her independence is unmarried but is constantly surrounded by friends and family. My husband and I have three dogs, one being a Border Collie/Lab cross, ever the herder, the second a beautiful 100 lb female Golden Retriever and the third, a sweet natured American Husky. Our household can be lively at times! (Early in 2016 we were greatly saddened when both our Border Collie and Golden Retriever crossed the rainbow bridge.)
My husband and I enjoy travelling and while our most favourite place to vacation is in Sedona, AZ, we have visited to many other states and cities in the US, including the islands of Hawai'i, travelled to England and Wales (in search of our ancestors), Scotland, & Ireland and have been on three cruises, one which took us to all the Baltic Capitals including St. Petersburg, and another in the Mediterranean and the capitals of the many countries surrounding that sea. Further trips will probably take us back to spots that left a good first impression with us."
